Dark Chocolate Butterscotch Brownies Recipe

The satiny frosting and butterscotch chips make them really irresistible. Give them a try.

Ingredients: (Yield: about 5 dozen)

  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • ¾ cup butter, cubed
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1-½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup 60% cocoa bittersweet chocolate baking chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup 60% cocoa bittersweet chocolate baking chips
  • ¼ cup butter, cubed

Method:

In a microwave, melt unsweetened chocolate and butter; stir until smooth. Cool slightly. In a large bowl, combine sugar and chocolate mixture. Stir in egg whites and vanilla. Gradually add flour to chocolate mixture. Stir in chips.

Spread into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean (do not overbake). Cool on a wire rack.

For glaze, in a microwave, melt the chocolate chips and butter; stir until smooth. Immediately spread over the brownies. Cool before cutting.
