Put a few on the side for yourself because they go fast.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/span> (Yield: 3\u00bd dozen)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00be cup butter, softened<\/li>\n<li>1\u00bd cups packed brown sugar, divided<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>3 eggs, separated<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>2 cups all-purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon baking powder<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc teaspoon baking soda<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips<\/li>\n<li>1 cup flaked coconut<\/li>\n<li>\u00be cup chopped walnuts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a large bowl, cream butter, \u00bd cup brown sugar and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks and vanilla until well blended. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture just until blended (batter will be thick). Spread into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Sprinkle with the chocolate chips, coconut and walnuts.<\/p>\n<p>In another large bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in remaining brown sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat until stiff peaks form. Spread over the top.<\/p>\n<p>Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean (do not overbake). Cool on a wire rack. Cut into bars.
