Simple Herb Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients: Makes 8

225 g/8 oz/2 cups plain (all-purpose) flour
15 ml/1 tbsp baking powder
5 ml/1 tsp caster (superfine) sugar
2.5 ml/0.5 tsp salt
50 g/2 oz butter or margarine

15 ml/1 tbsp snipped fresh chives
A pinch of paprika
Freshly ground black pepper
45 ml/3 tbsp milk

45 ml/3 tbsp water

Method:

Mix together the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Rub in the butter or margarine until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Mix in the chives, paprika and pepper to taste. Stir in the milk and water and mix to a soft dough. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth, then roll out to 2 cm or 3/4 in thick and cut into rounds with a biscuit (cookie) cutter. Place the biscuits (crackers), well apart, on a greased baking (cookie) sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C/400°F/gas mark 6 for 15 minutes until puffed and golden.
