Treacle Scones Recipe

Ingredients: Makes 10

225 g/8 oz/2 cups plain (all-purpose) flour
10 ml/2 tsp baking powder
2.5 ml/0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
50 g/2 oz butter or margarine, diced
25 g/1 oz/2 tbsp caster (superfine) sugar
30 ml/2 tbsp black treacle (molasses)

150 ml milk

Method:

Mix together the flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Rub in the butter or margarine, then stir in the sugar, treacle and enough of the milk to make a soft dough. Roll out to 1 cm/0.5 in thick and cut into 5 cm/2 in rounds with a biscuit (cookie) cutter. Place the scones (biscuits) on a greased baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 220°C/425°F/gas mark 7 for 10-15 minutes until well risen and golden brown.
