Treacle Scones Recipe

Ingredients: Makes 10

225 g/8 oz/2 cups plain (all-purpose) flour
10 ml/2 tsp baking powder
2.5 ml/0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
50 g/2 oz butter or margarine, diced
25 g/1 oz/2 tbsp caster (superfine) sugar
30 ml/2 tbsp black treacle (molasses)

150 ml milk


Mix together the flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Rub in the butter or margarine, then stir in the sugar, treacle and enough of the milk to make a soft dough. Roll out to 1 cm/0.5 in thick and cut into 5 cm/2 in rounds with a biscuit (cookie) cutter. Place the scones (biscuits) on a greased baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 220C/425F/gas mark 7 for 10-15 minutes until well risen and golden brown.
