Put the fruit, butter or margarine and
water in a pan and simmer for 20 minutes. Allow to cool. Add the egg,
then gradually stir in the flour, salt and sugar. Spoon into a greased
20 cm/8 in cake tin (pan) and bake in a preheated oven at
160°C/325°F/gas mark 3 for 1 1/4 hours until a skewer inserted in the
centre comes out clean.
